Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard 2-Core

Flexibly supplement your licensing needs for Windows Server 2019 Standard with the 2-Core Packages from Wiresoft! The Standard edition of Windows Server 2019 is designed especially for use in smaller data centers: accordingly, it offers sufficient virtualization capabilities, combined with good scalability, strong performance as well as effective security layers, as required for reliable protection of data and applications in multi-cloud environments.

The Windows Server 2019 Standard server operating system combines physical and virtual networks for delivering data and services through cloud-based servers, making it a great fit for meeting the IT needs of SMBs. With Windows 10 as the operating system, many optimizations as well as new, powerful features, this edition is thus best equipped for all workloads.

An important factor in the decision to purchase the Standard Edition of Windows Server 2019 is the available virtualization options - including via containers. Thus, this represents indispensable functions especially for smaller companies that also want to provide reliable infrastructures in this area.

In the standard edition, Windows Server 2019 enables companies to more closely connect on-premises environments with the cloud, including via Microsoft Azure Services, which provide additional hybrid functions as well as security layers.

Licensing of Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition is core-based, with a minimum number of 16 cores per server. Servers with a higher number of cores can be licensed conveniently and flexibly with additional 2-core packages.

The Windows Server 2019 Standard 2-Core Package can be found at Wiresoft as used software - with the great advantage of a significantly lower price than for corresponding new goods - and without differences in all the typical features that this edition offers in terms of functions - especially in virtualization -, security and performance. Detailed information on all the features and functions of Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition, as well as on the Microsoft licensing terms applicable to 2-core packages, is provided in the following overview.

Windows Server 2019 Standard for running multi-cloud environments

The Windows Server 2019 Standard edition also offers some virtualization capabilities, including data and application security, at a higher level than the previous version: this is helped by many enhancements and additions to features already known there, as well as the ability to create software-defined hyperconverged (HCI) infrastructure platforms over it, offering even more benefits for server and desktop virtualization through easier deployment and scaling, as well as better manageability.

Comparison: What features does Windows Server 2019 Standard offer?

The decision to buy the Standard edition of Windows Server 2019 is usually influenced by whether certain virtualization features are either not available or only available in limited performance: Hyper-V, for example, can only be used here to a very limited extent, and the same applies to Shielded Virtual Machines (VMs) as well as Storage Spaces Direct and storage replication, as well as SDN (Software Defined Networking) and SDS

(Software Defined Storage).

Virtualization options with Windows Server 2019 Standard

Basically, Windows Server 2019 Edition Standard offers limited virtualization - so it is rather designed for those companies where this plays a minor role. As a result, the number of virtual machines and Hyper-V containers that can be run is also limited here, with a RAM limit of 24 TB, as in the more comprehensive edition. For more on this, see below.

Storage Replica

In Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition, the Storage Replica storage feature is available with limitations, whereas Storage Spaces Direct is not supported. Storage Replica supports both synchronous and asynchronous replication of data, preventing its loss at the file system level: synchronous replication mirrors data at physical locations with a fail-safe volume, and asynchronous replication performs this function between locations over network links with higher latency.

Other new features of Windows Server 2019 Standard

Also available in Windows Server 2019 Standard edition are the following key features for analytics, container use and hybrid infrastructure unification:

System Insights for comprehensive server analytics

In Windows Server 2019, the predictive analytics feature System Insights is available for this purpose, which is supported by a machine learning model for more efficient functioning. System Insights allows comprehensive insights into the operation of locally deployed servers by analyzing performance indicators and events, and then making accurate predictions for the reactive management of Windows Server instances, which can lead to a reduction in effort and thus help organizations reduce operational costs.

Kubernetes and Linux support

Windows Server 2019 also offers extensive container support in Standard Edition. When using Hyper-V containers, however, it's important to note that the Standard Edition license only allows 2 containers, as only 2 virtual machines (VMs) are allowed for them; it also doesn't include support for host monitoring. Windows containers, on the other hand, can be run in unlimited numbers.

In addition, Kubernetes and Linux are now more comprehensively supported, so that Linux and Windows containers managed with Kubernetes can be used in parallel. Specifically for Kubernetes, new features such as container networking are also available in the standard edition, among others.

Higher protection of data and network with Azure Services

With Azure, hybrid capabilities are also available in Windows Server 2019 Standard to work seamlessly in an on-premises data center as well as in the cloud. Azure alone provides a cloud with an end-to-end hybrid infrastructure with unified security, identity and management capabilities:

  • Azure Active Directory enables universal management and protection of identities with help across multiple environments.
  • Azure Arc extends Azure management and Azure services to any infrastructure.
  • Through the Windows Admin Center, Azure services such as Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery and Azure Monitor can be quickly and easily enabled.

As a result, Azure Services in Windows Server 2019 Standard not only provide improved protection of on-premises Active Directory, but also easier synchronization and backup of data.

Hardware requirements for installing and running Windows Server 2019 Standard

Windows Server 2019 is based on the Windows 10 operating system. In order to use Windows Server 2019 Standard in an unrestricted and secure manner, the underlying hardware must meet all of the minimum requirements listed below. Other requirements are additionally dependent on the particular system configuration as well as other installed applications.

  • Hard disk space: 32 GB
  • Random access memory (RAM): 512 MB
  • Server desktop space: 2 GB
  • Processor: 64-bit architecture
  • Processor speed: 1.4 GHz
  • Graphics card: 1,024 x 768 pixels, support for Super VGA
  • Network card: Gigabit Ethernet, 1x

Licensing with Windows Server 2019 Standard 2-Core Package

The licensing of a server with Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition is also carried out for used software according to the Microsoft licensing regulations: The number of cores is used as a benchmark for calculating the license requirement. The following terms and conditions apply.

General Microsoft license terms for Windows Server 2019 Standard

Server software such as Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition is always licensed based on the physical hardware used. In addition to the number of physical core processors, the number of virtual servers is also taken into account. Each server license covers 2 physical processor cores. In accordance with the Microsoft licensing regulations, a minimum number of 8 cores per processor is always taken as a basis - even if the existing hardware has fewer than 8 cores. Furthermore, a minimum of 2 processors is assumed for each physical server, resulting in a minimum number of 16 cores.

Servers that have a higher number of cores than 16 must be licensed with 2-core packages in addition to Windows Server 2019 Standard.

Additional licensing requirements for Windows Server 2019 Standard

In a Hyper-V environment, all processors must be licensed that correspond to physical processor cores. The Windows Server Standard edition entitles you to run a maximum of two Hyper-V instances per core license. If more Hyper-V instances are required with the Standard edition, all active cores must be re-licensed for this purpose.

In addition to the Windows Server Standard license, all clients - users as well as endpoints - that access Windows Server 2019 must also be provided with their own client access license (CAL). These User and Device CALs are also available from Wiresoft at low prices used.

FAQs about Wiresoft used software like Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition

The functionality of a 2-core package of Windows Server 2019 Standard offered by Wiresoft as used software generally does not differ from the comparable new, unused server license - as a software generally does not wear out.
